This is one of the lesser known, yet very interesting natural treasures of La Palma. Its abrupt topography, for which it receives the nickname “Miniature Caldera de Taburiente”, gives the area a micro-climate which attracts certain endemic plant species like the white blossoming broom. For this, and because of its proximity to the northern crater edge of the National Park, it has always been one of the favourite grazing areas of the shepherds. Although the hiking path PR LP 12, which connects the Roque de los Muchachos with the town of Tijarafe, passes nearby, the entrance to the Caldera de Jieque is not indicated and remains largely unused. If you would like to visit this area, it is essential to inform yourself first about the current state of its hiking paths.
